Avengers heroes Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner recently found themselves villainized after comments they made about Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow character at a recent press interview. Here is the rundown of comments as reported by Variety:
Both actors were asked about Black Widow’s multiple romances in the Marvel Universe.
Renner: (sarcastically) “She’s a slut.”
Evans: (laughs) “I was going to do something along those lines. She’s a complete whore.”
After these comments, per usual, the Internet exploded. People were upset with the degrading comments towards a female character. The actors released the following apologetic statements:
Evans: “Yesterday we were asked about the rumors that Black Widow wanted to be in a relationship with both Hawkeye and Captain America. We answered in a very juvenile and offensive way that rightfully angered some fans. I regret it and sincerely apologize.”
Renner: “I am sorry that this tasteless joke about a fictional character offended anyone. It was not meant to be serious in any way. Just poking fun during an exhausting and tedious press tour.”
Am I the only one that is blown away that these guys were forced to apologize for statements about a FICTIONAL CHARACTER? Black Widow isn’t real! Besides that ridiculous fact, these guys were obviously joking. Is it not ok to joke anymore? If not, somebody needs to let Saturday Night Live know that they can no longer call people sluts and whores.
This era of false politically correct, holier-than-thou, halo wearing social media users needs to end. These people are absolutely fake and full of crap. If any of these people have never bad mouthed anyone or said a risqué joke then please allow me to kiss your feet and stroke your angel wings. Otherwise, lighten up.
To be clear, if Evans or Renner called Johansson herself a whore, then I would have a problem with it. If they called her one in a joking manner, I probably wouldn’t. She probably wouldn’t either. The fact that they had to publically apologize for calling Black Widow names is unbelievable.
For the record, I’d like to state that the fictional character Merle from The Walking Dead was an a-hole. I will not be apologizing for that comment because that would be ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS.
