It is a short blog today, but I feel this is a very important topic and one that could help prevent injury and maybe save someone’s life. A 20-year-old man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after reportedly killing an 18-month-old child by trying to give him The Undertaker’s Last Ride finishing maneuver onto his bed.
This is the exact point of “Don’t Try This at Home” advertisements. Fans don’t understand the dangers in performing these moves, ESPECIALLY on children. Two of my roommates in college used to get drunk and power bomb each other onto our couch, but at least they tried to figure out how to take the move. It takes two to tango in wrestling, and an 18-month-old kid has no idea how to take The Last Ride. Just because a child or person is small does not mean that a stronger person can perform these moves on them by themselves. Even two adults may think they know how to do these moves on each other, but you are risking serious and permanent injury without professional training. My roommates got lucky.
The media may try to blame the WWE on this, but make no mistake about it - this is the full responsibility of this grown adult that made a stupid decision. If I try to fly off my roof like Superman would DC Comics be to blame? No, I should be because I would be the moron. This is nothing different.
If you are performing wrestling moves on your children, even in good fun, I beg you to stop. If you know someone that does this to their kids please talk them out of it. The child may think it is fun and playful, but the dangers are very real. Please spread the word. Maybe you can help prevent an accidental death.
